PS5 controller test

For the DualSense and the DualSense Edge on a computer, phone or tablet. Every button by the name printed on it, both sticks, L2 and R2 in steps, and a plain result.

Press any button on the controller

Browsers show a controller only after a button is pressed, so that pages cannot list your devices unasked. Wired or Bluetooth both work.

How it works

  1. Connect the DualSense with a USB-C cable, or pair it over Bluetooth: hold PS and Create together until the light bar flashes, then choose it in your device's Bluetooth settings.
  2. Open this page and press any button; the test shows «DualSense Wireless Controller» with PlayStation's button names.
  3. Press Cross, Circle, Square, Triangle, the shoulder buttons, both stick clicks, the arrows, Create and Options. The PS button is optional: it often opens the computer's own menu.
  4. Press L2 and R2 all the way, run the drift check, turn both sticks round their edges, and try the rumble.
  5. Print the report or save it as a PDF to send with a PlayStation repair or a return.

What the results mean

What a browser can read from a DualSense
Its buttons, both sticks and how far L2 and R2 are pressed. The browser cannot read the motion sensor, the touchpad's position, the battery or the adaptive triggers' resistance, so this test does not claim to.
L2 and R2 in steps
Each trigger reports how far it is pressed. One that stops short of the full press reads as such, with the deepest press it reached.
The touchpad click
Some browsers show the touchpad click as an extra button past the standard ones; when the browser shows it, it is listed as optional.
DualSense Edge
The Edge reads like a DualSense here. Its back buttons repeat other buttons, so they light the button they are set to.

Questions

The DualSense does not appear. What now?

Press a button after the page opens. If Steam is running, it may hold the controller for itself: close it, or turn off Steam Input for PlayStation controllers, then press a button again.

Why does rumble not work?

On Windows, Chrome and Edge do not run a DualSense's motors from a page, and Firefox and the browsers on iPhone and iPad run no controller's. On a Mac, Chrome and Safari 16.4 or later can, with the tab in front.

Can it test the adaptive triggers?

No page can through the browser's controller interface: it reports the press, not the resistance. A press that stops short is still found.

Does it work with a PS4 DualShock 4?

Yes. It names a DualShock 4's buttons as printed, Share included, and the DualShock 4 has its own page.
